Finding Purpose
Most of us have heard the speech given by Les Brown, where you’re lying on your deathbed and all your dreams were standing around and asking you why you didn’t let them live. Having your dreams die with you and not being a legacy of what you stood for. My question to you is exactly what Les asked; what dreams, what talents, what abilities, what ideas will die with you?
Each one of us has a purpose we were born on this earth to do. Our “WHY,” the reason God placed upon this earth to fulfill.
What were you born to do? What do you think your future has in store? What is your purpose or your destiny while here on this earth?
As leaders we tend to focus on others as a servant to their needs, as should be for the most part, but at times we must take a step back and readjust our focus to ourselves. This is to allow for our own personal growth, self-reflection, and mental rejuvenation to sooth our physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual needs
So, what is it about us that we need to understand the most? First and foremost, we need to know and understand where we are going. The direction in life we feel most drawn to follow. We need a purpose that will guide our sense of accomplishment and self-worth, and that’s our discussion for today.
What is Purpose?
Webster defines purpose as something set-up as an objective or end to be attained. It is an intentional determination that we must go after or fulfill, a dream that has often been unattainable. Purpose is the fuel that drives our motivations, our calling. Have you heard your calling? Do you know what you want to do with your life?
My purpose is to build better leaders for a greater tomorrow. It’s about living life to the fullest through our work. Without purpose the work we do will not satisfy our lives.
Your purpose will be defined by four key attributes.
1) You will have dedicated commitment. This is a commitment that no one will be able to draw you away from.
2) It will have a personal meaning to you.
3) It will be guided by goals set by you
4) It will have a vision bigger than yourself.
Ensuring that you have a clear vision of what or who you want to be and what you want to do will guide you to achieving what you want to do and become.
